      EXTREMELY SHORT VERSION IS –
      You thought SOPA and ACTA were bad? Internet censorship and a stranglehold on what we hold dear. Well, TPP is basically SOPA and ACTA on stereoids and it spans MULTIPLE COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD.

      via sl9086
      TPP is a multi country trade deal
      The original plan was to force laws that could not be passed in congress: Internet censorship, anti enviroment laws, questionable rules, etc.
      bad news: Fast track is signed wich means there is no chance for congress to ammend treaty. All it would take is just 1 yes or no vote.
      Good news: We have months still to fight back, we just need to know how and when.

      WHAT CAN *YOU* DO?
      1 – Remember first and foremost, YOU *CAN* MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Don’t just sit behind your computer / tablet / phone screen and think ‘ I’m just one person. I can’t do anything’. Even the smallest tidal wave is made up of the smallest drop of water. (many, many drops)
      2 -Scroll down. Find the petitions and sign them.
      3 – Spread the word everywhere you can to, literally, everyone you know. The more people that know about this and won’t stand for this, the better.
      4 – Tweet, e-mail, facebook every politician you can find. Tell them that you sure as hell will NOT stand for this.
      5 – Remember, if we don’t pull together and do SOMETHING, if we don’t stand up and make a change, our future will change and NOT for the better.

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      So I usually don’t take a part in these kinds of things, but when the topic of limiting internet freedom and privacy comes back, I’m feeling honestly very bothered. Especially when I recall how the government tries to enforce the laws limiting internet for some time already (SOPA, ACTA). The topic comes back under different names and different forms and the only thing that changes is its name and how much more sneaky they are trying to be about it. This time though the thing is so much bigger than before and covers up many different, important aspects of our everyday lives.
      And this is something what is happening right now, even though we are meant to be not aware of that. Please read this journal, or at least watch the video and please try to spread the word. I know you may think you alone make no difference, but believe me you do. A whole lot of people have no idea about it, possibly just as you didn’t know till now and I think we have to be aware of that. That’s the only way to put the spotlight on it, before we can even consider taking any steps in stopping it. Especially that right now we, as public, are completely cut out of this discussion.
      Video
      I know it may seem boring and confusing and you may feel like you have no time for this right now, but please please watch the video, it explains everything in a very clear, simple to understand way, it’s only 2:40 long and its about something what may affect every single, even the tiniest one of us in a very painful way.
      Information
      (info is fully copy pasted from different sources linked below)
      Obama just signed a law allowing him to fast track TPP and other “trade agreements”, allowing him to accept it with just a simple majority.
      what is TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership)?
      The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a secretive, multinational trade agreement that threatens to extend restrictive intellectual property (IP) laws across the globe and rewrite international rules on its enforcement. Only a small part of TPP is actually about trade, and it will affect every aspect of your life from healthcare to food to internet.
      The main problems are:
      (1) Intellectual Property Chapter: Leaked draft texts of the agreement show that the IP chapter would have extensive negative ramifications for users’ freedom of speech, right to privacy and hinder peoples’ abilities to innovate.
      (2) Lack of Transparency: The entire process shrouded in secrecy.
      The twelve nations currently negotiating the TPP are the US, Japan, Australia, Peru, Malaysia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Chile, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, and Brunei Darussalam. The TPP contains a chapter on intellectual property covering copyright, trademarks, and patents. Since the draft text of the agreement has never been officially released to the public, we know from leaked documents, such as the May 2014 draft of the TPP Intellectual Property Chapter [PDF],
      https://www.eff.org/document/leaked-tpp-intellectual-property-chapter-may-2014
      that US negotiators are pushing for the adoption of copyright measures far more restrictive than currently required by international treaties, including the controversial Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA).
      https://www.eff.org/issues/acta
      The TPP Will Rewrite Global Rules on Intellectual Property Enforcement
      In short, countries would have to abandon any efforts to learn from the mistakes of the US and its experience with the DMCA over the last 12 years, and adopt many of the most controversial aspects of US copyright law in their entirety. At the same time, the US IP chapter does not export the limitations and exceptions in the US copyright regime like fair use, which have enabled freedom of expression and technological innovation to flourish in the US. It includes only a placeholder for exceptions and limitations. This raises serious concerns about other countries’ sovereignty and the ability of national governments to set laws and policies to meet their domestic priorities.
      This won’t happen in a court of your own country, this will place an international court above your laws. Consumer rights, from food to your favourite hobby, will be raped mercilessly. Think it’s bad now? You haven’t seen anything.
      TPP will make it easier to outsource labor in Asia
      From governmental contracts to code monkeys trough services, you will be competing with third-world slave labor and buying its products. Should you be able to afford it and have some free time as your working hours get closer to those of Vietnam
      TPP can force your ISP to monitor your internet activity, and fine you or even send you to jail.
      It will be possible to fine you even just for copying a DVD you own to your hard drive. It’s SOPA and all that shit right back from the dead.
      I’m in EU, who gives a shit!
      TTIP is the same shit EU-flavoured and it’s going to hurt you. It will be negotiated by that most democratic institution called the European Commission, so you know you’re fucked.
      Why You Should Care
      TPP raises significant concerns about citizens’ freedom of expression, due process, innovation, the future of the Internet’s global infrastructure, and the right of sovereign nations to develop policies and laws that best meet their domestic priorities. In sum, the TPP puts at risk some of the most fundamental rights that enable access to knowledge for the world’s citizens.
      I don’t believe you OP, I want to read what it says!
      Well too fucking bad, because it isn’t just secret, it will remain secret for four years after it’s accepted. Talk about transparency. However a small part has been leaked, you can read more here:
      What You Can Do
      Are you in the United States?
      Sign this petition directed at Sen. Wyden,
      https://act.eff.org/action/demand-an-end-to-secret-copyright-trade-deals
      calling on him to reject any version of Fast Track (aka Trade Promotion Authority) that does not truly address the secrecy or the private-industry-dominated process. As a long-time defender of digital rights and an outspoken critic of TPP secrecy, we need to let him know that we’re counting on him to stand up for Internet users at this critical time.
      Tell U.S. lawmakers to
      stand up for your digital rights and preserve our constitutional checks and balances in government.
      https://act.eff.org/action/don-t-let-congress-fast-track-tpp
      . Demand your state representatives oppose any initiative to enact Fast Track (aka Trade Promotion Authority), which hands their own constitutional authority to debate and modify trade law.
