If you’ve ever used Google Assistant on your phone, smart speaker, or another device, you may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a $68 million proposed class action settlement. The lawsuit alleges that Google Assistant recorded and processed voice interactions without proper consent, including instances where the assistant activated without a deliberate “Hey Google” or “Okay Google” trigger. These unintentional activations, called “False Accepts,” are at the center of the case. Google denies all allegations and no court has ruled either way.
To qualify, you must be a U.S. resident who used Google Assistant and had voice commands processed by the service. Keep in mind that you may need to provide proof of purchase or usage for any device you claim. The exact payout per person has not been determined yet, but here are the key dates to know:
- Claim Deadline: August 27, 2026
- Exclusion Deadline: September 9, 2026
- Final Approval Hearing: October 1, 2026
Head over to the official settlement site to submit your claim before the August 27 deadline. Let us know if you’re able to claim!
